I just pownce Jonathan about the episode. Okay. For a 1st episode, I'm greatly impressed you'e talking about tech, but not only computer.. cool ! Keep up the work, and I can wait for episode 2. Now my comments :
- Skype : the outtage didn't stopped me to call via the internet. I'm surprised that nobody took the chance (even you) to point out that skype is not the only provider to VoIP, but SIP is a good one. Ok, everybody is saying that "it just works" when you install it. Right. but at the expense of the network. for a house, this can be okay, but for companies (even small ones) it may be disturbing it. Why not a review of many VoIp solutions ? Price, configuration, easy/not easy installation etc.... ?
- floppy disk vs cd rom vs flash drive : You're right Daniel. More and more storage will be on flash memory, when you see that 1 B of RAM is going down very fast, I guess we will have 1 GB for the price of a 640 MB CDROM. Floppy disk already disappear from desktop and laptop computer, and I think sooner or later CDROM will get off computer too. And For another reason : network applications !
However, a CDROM is not xriteable, and this is a security measure for avoiding deeting a game or an application. Now.... haow can you do this on a USB key ? We may ba have to invent read only keys ?
- CD is 25 year old : I was there when it got out, but you were.... I missed the fact that a so old medium (in computer scale), has any iunfluence on youth like you :) I mean you're a lot younger, so is it good old thing ?
- iPhone : the ATT limit in Vermont is simply stupid. This shows that when you have a deal with ATT you aren't free to travel in Vermont, states of the USA ! A very good example I'm experiencing and that can be placed in vermont is : I'm living in New york (for example. My Dad in Vermont. He got heart problem, and I need to move for weeks to Vermont to help him.. Why can't I use my iPhone. does ATT forbid my dad from heart attack ????? STUPID :)
- iPhone in Europe : Jonathan, your question is good. Why is there not one company for whole europe. My opinion is that Apple select in each country, the operator having the most customer :
Orange : is the France Telecom, the historically first téléphon operator. It just has the biggest customers list in France
T-Mobile : Deutsch Telekom, the historical first telephon operator havong then the biggest list in Germany
O2 : I really don't know... I thought BT (British Telecom) would have been choosen....
